Bright

I’ve just returned from a weekend away with Colin in Bright. I had a fabulous time especially given I saw snow for the first time in 10 years and I saw a frozen over lake for the first time. Given I shrieked with excitement when I saw a frozen puddle, this was an amazing experience for me and of course I took about 50 photos with my camera phone 🙂 So here are a couple of my favorites taken from Lake Catani in Mt Buffalo National Park.

The Worst Poetry in the Universe

Inspired by some recent HHGG listening I thought I might show the worst poetry in the universe as described by Douglas Adams. The poet in question was in fact a schoolmate of Douglas Adams – Paul Neil Milne Johnston and the address mentioned in the radio series is actually the poets address.

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool.
They lay. They rotted. They turned
Around occasionally.
Bits of flesh dropped off them from
Time to time.
And sank into the pools mire.
They also smelt a great deal.

Apparently this guy won several English prizes at school and received a scholarship to Cambridge… What’s wrong with this picture??

Stupid Fuckwit of a Network

I just wrote a post. It was a post of perfect length. It was humorous, it gave insight into who ‘Miriam’ is . It contained amusing anecdotes about how when I was a kid I wanted to be a boy and went by the name of ‘Julian’. It was a perfectly formed specimen of blog post.

But then the network went down…

as I clicked Publish Post…

AND I LOST THE WHOLE FRACKING THING!!!!!

So now you will have to continue with your lives never knowing what amazing insights into the world which might have inspired you to come up with the single most brilliant idea of our time might have been contained in the post that the internet lost.

A Clarification

I just got a comment regarding the type of engineering that I’m doing and sounding very confused.

I’m not doing mechanical engineering,
I’m not doing electrical engineering

I’m doing Robotics and Mechatronics/Computer Science and Software engineering as a double degree.

Basically Robotics and Mechatronics is really just mechatronics with the robotics bit added so that parents have some idea what the hell their kids are doing.

Mechatronic systems use a processor and hence electronics to control a mechanical system; anything from automatic transmission and the button you press to turn on the air conditioning in your car to robotic submarines which locate and deactivate sea-mines. So I do a whole lot of mechanical engineering subjects and a whole lot of electrical engineering subjects and some software engineering subjects for the first bit and the second bit is almost purely programming.
